Airlie Beach is a mere 1 Hour 45 minutes from Mackay or approximately 12-13 hours North of Brisbane. The highway between Mackay and Airlie Beach is rather bumpy and poorly maintained. There are a few cute towns you will go through/via including Kuttabull, Mt Ossa and Pindi Pindi. The town of Proserpine is also worth diverting into for a look.
Cannonvale has an abundance of shops including, Big W, Rivers and Reject Shop to name a few. There were a few shops not open during my visit due to Cyclone Iris back in April and this was also evident when I went to Airlie and Shute Harbour. Below is the first Harbour out of Cannonvale.
The Rainbow Cafe is nestled on the first floor of the Shingley Beach Resort at Cannonvale. See my post for review.
I arrived on a Saturday morning and was greeted with the beautiful beach markets right on Airlie.
This is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.
Another view of the beach at Airlie.
Airlie Beach is the passage to the Whitsunday Islands and the water is smooth with amazing aquas and blues. A painters haven.
There are great little place to swim everywhere.
You can even hire small boats down by the water to explore more of this beautiful area.
View of the Whitsundays from the Marina.
What a magical day.
There are buildings nestled in amongst the pine laden trees of Airlie.
This is Shute Harbour. The main port to leave from to go across to the islands. You can go via barge or water taxi plus there are other cruise and flight options. Which ever way you choose to explore this region you will not be disappointed.
More buildings nestled into the mountain.
Just looks so pretty and somehow calm.
This mountain is the one you drive over to get to Shute Harbour.
I wanted to take a lot of photos of this tranquil bay.
Shute Harbour just has soo many amazing coves.
This just goes to show that even on a cloudy day how amazing the water is.
See my review in the posts section.
